post-debate blather
rather than poke my eyes with sharp objects, i took the equally masochistic route of watching the second obama-mccain "town hall" debate...

after weeks of promising a clean campaign, and teetering on the verge of a massive loss, mccain used his week to launch a series of attack ads. according to many media sources, almost all of mccain's campaign ads have "gone negative."

so the lead-up to this debate was, essentially, the question of whether mccain was going to hurl poop directly at obama or if he was going to do it from a distance and let his surrogates hurl poop from a distance.

while mccain avoided calling obama a terrorist, or mentioning his middle name, hussein, or asking if obama was in favor of the weather underground's tactics when obama was just eight years old, he nevertheless couldn't resist trying to lob the "tax and spend liberal" riff at obama...

watching this slow-motion train wreck leaves me with but two questions... will obama get the electoral landslide that i'd love to see? and, #2, if he does get the votes in crucial swing states, will those votes get counted or will they fall into some sort of diebold black hole?

If Obama does get elected, will he make a biger mess than Shrub?

Obama wants to invade Pakistan, thus making for yet another stateless region. There are exactly the thing needed to promote growth of Islamic Terrorists.

According to the polls, Obama is positioned for the kind of landslide you and I would like to see. Even my home state, VA, looks mighty *ahem* cobalt, turquoise, azure, whatever name you like for that prettiest of colors.

HOWEVER. You're right - there's no guarantee the voters' will has any real meaning anymore. And there's real scary forces out there - the guy in the crowd at Failin's rally a couple days ago who yelled "KILL HIM" got no real censure. I don't worry about Obama losing fairly. I worry most of all about a replay of that horror that I wasn't even around for but haunts my parents to this day. When it comes right down to it: Obama is smart, qualified, well-intentioned, sincere...and black. There is terrorism still in this country, no doubt about that--and it comes from right-wing white supremacists.

I've been doing protection Work for him. He's not a superhero, he's not a messiah, he won't fix everything--but he's a decent guy and deserves a chance, and our country cannot handle seeing another beloved potential leader struck down in his prime, which I fear is a real risk.
